Que m'iche? (What's up?!) Today we woke up bright (er...make that dark...) and early to meet at the Minneapolis/St. Paul International Airport. It was 4:00 AM, an hour not seen by most people except in rare circumstances such as this (and for good reason...I think we got an average of 2 hours sleep the night before). We got everyone together, went over some procedural stuff, and before we knew it, we were on a plane to Costa Rica (via Houston, of course). Months of planning, preparation, and meetings were finally coming to fruition, and it was an amazing feeling.
First stop: Adventure Inn, a beautiful hotel with a great pool out back. We got our room assignments and put our luggage away, then boarded the bus again for a quick tour of the city. Fortunately, we had a couple hours of free time after that, during which the students tested out the pool and/or exercise room, while others chose to embrace the culture with a little siesta (wait...that's not a cultural thing here?! I think it should be.).
Our group seems to be meshing well together, and the two subgroups (those of Profe Olson and Profe Simmons) have come up with team names: Cacahuate con Bigotes (Peanuts with Mustaches...don't ask) and Murcielagos con Fuego (Bats with Fire...again, I have no idea). We are both so pleased with the kids and are looking forward to many great adventures with them.
We will try to keep this blog updated as much as possible, but are limited by internet access and schedule, so please bear with us if we don't update daily.
Buenas noches,
Profe Olson y Profe Simmons
